DRZ Repairs Needed

Well, Ihaven't ridden the DRZmuch at all in the past 9 months or so. Inoticed at the end of the season last year that there was a ticking sound that was a bit unusual. Power and everything still seemed fine however. Ifigured it was the manual cam chain tensioner that needed adjusting, and I'd put it off until the next season.Well... in April or so Ibrought the DRZ up to my office/shop space and did an oil/filter change and attempted to adjust the cam chain tensioner. Well, two problems. 1) Barely...

Latest DRZ Pictures

Nothing too exciting... but took a few more recent pictures of the DRZ after changing out the Acerbis tank from yellow to black, and doing the new swing arm graphics.  Pictures are here.  Here is a teaser though...

Trailtech Vapor installed on DRZ

I have had a Trailtech Endurance computer on the DRZ for years, but now that the DRZ has been SuperMoto'd, and I'm riding it more on the street, I wanted something a little better. The Endurance is battery powered (internal) only, so the backlight only works for 2 seconds at a time, which isn't great for night riding. The Trailtech Vapor has an internal battery, but also wires into the bikes 12v system. The Vapor has many added features as well. Such as tach, water temperature (with alerts), programmable...

Scotts damper installed on the DRZ

The DRZ has always has some headshake when riding on the street at higher speeds.  I picked up a Scotts damper which was discounted nicely at CycleGear, and also had them order a mount for the DRZ.  Picked it up today and installed.  Took maybe 20-30 minutes, so not too bad.  Pictures are here.  I'll post some updates on how well it works soon.

DRZ Conversion to SM

Been wanting to SM (SuperMoto) my DRZ400-E, but couldn't justify the cost of the wheels, etc. Found a DRZ-400S that had been fully converted to SM and bought it. Then I decided that I'd rather have the SM stuff on my E anyhow (more power, higher compression, etc).A conversion ensued... Pictures are here. More information on the mods (always updated) on my DRZ are also here.Final pictures of the bike (as of now anyhow!) are here!

Replaced taillight w/ LED light on DRZ

The dual sport kit on the DRZ used an incandescent tail light, which never seemed to work well, especially getting banged around on the dirt. I ordered an LED Tail light inner kit from WheelingCycleSupply for $19 + SH and replaced the bulb and mount inside my tail light with their LED module. Works great, and even has 2 down firing LED's for the license plate. Sorry, didn't take pictures.

DRZ Case Guards, Skid Plate, etc

Well, got in the items I ordered from ThumperTalk and installed them last night.  Well, everything except the manual cam chain tensioner.  Here are the pictures.

My friend Albie from TSBA and I are heading up to Broken Bow, OK for some weekend Dual Sport riding.  He helped me swap tires last night, since the TrailWings weren't gonna cut it.  Put on some Dunlop D756's for the trip.

DRZ GPS Mount & Hand Guards

Well, moved my Moose Racing hand guards and RAM Mount GPS mount over to the DRZ400 today.  Everything fit great.  Just had to cut the end of the grips, etc.  Pictures are here.

Also ordered a few things from the ThumperTalk store.  Got a skid plate, a manual cam chain tensioner, and case covers for the DRZ.  Actually, they emailed me today saying the stuff shipped out today, so should see it soon.

New motorcycle - Dual Sport

Well... even though I really love the KDX200, it's apparent that my knee surgery's aren't going to let me enjoy that bike and real dirt riding.

I had thought about dual sporting the KDX, but having to deal with a small gas tank, a 2-stroke engine, and having to carry/mix oil, it just wasn't worth it.  Therefore, this great bike is for sale.

I did however pick up a 2001 Suzuki DRZ-400E dirt bike, which has already been converted to dual sport with street legal tags, etc.  I think this bike and style of riding is more suited to my dirty thoughts without killing my knees.

Pictures of the new bike are here.
